Despite the pandemic and the work required on site, the Léon Jouhaux school group has never really closed. For some time now, it has been welcoming children and adults in completely renovated spaces. The new facades, made of CAREA Acantha (overcladding) and Ardal (vertical) cladding, are animated by the light and shadows cast by the surrounding tree foliage. It makes the building feel like it is at one with nature.
The brief was to update the fabric of the building whilst fitting in with the traditional aesthetics in old town Lyon.
Carea facades have hundreds of colours, textures & profile combinations; so finding a finish that integrated with other buildings was easily achieved.
The advantages of specifying Carea go beyond aesthetics.
Unlike GRC, Carea is a closed cell construction meaning that graffiti is almost impossible to properly adhere to face. In addition, the material is extremely robust, so will take a lot of mistreatment and still maintain its pristine condition.
A SMOOTH MATT finish was selected for the facades, installed on Carea Primalu framework.
In addition, part of the façade is actually a sloping roof.
Careas technical department quickly developed a solution for using a wall in a roof condition, as we have done this numerous times before.
The result was a beautiful, inspiring and multi-functional roof. It is designed in two parts: the lower part is reserved for the kindergarten courtyard, which extends onto a flat roof; the upper part houses the gymnasium, which is covered by a green roof.
